My Journey

I too struggled with anxiety, depression, and self-doubt. I have managed to get better and overcome these struggles. Let me help you in your journey to wellness.

My journey: Originally born and raised in New York City. I was an artist at heart, sensitive, quiet, but very observant. I believe these personal attributes help me in my counseling because I approach and see things with a different angle. Despite having personal doubts since “I wasn’t like everyone else,” I married young, finished high School via GED, and started college. Finishing my BA in Studio Arts took a while due to responsibilities of motherhood, work, and being homemaker. I’ve also moved 11 times! I have lived in several states such as Massachusetts, Florida(2x’s), Michigan, New Jersey, and now Maryland. Adjustments were not easy and having to start over at different schools to finish off my BA had its difficult challenges. Through opportunities and circumstances that were presented to me, I became an educator for 6 years. I often heard my young student’s personal struggles and felt limited on what I could say or do for them. I moved once again and this time I was determined to get a masters in art therapy and/or counseling degree. I knew in my heart that this is what I was meant to do. However, I was often discouraged by the very people who should have supported me. It was a struggle to overcome the imposter syndrome. It led to anxiety, depression, and doubt. However, I continued and pursued despite the naysayers. I graduated in 2008 with my counseling science master’s degree despite all the obstacles that were placed in my path. I even thanked the people who made it difficult for me because it taught me the following:

  1. I can handle more than I ever thought I could

  2. That I can succeed if I make my mind to do so

  3. That people’s opinion of me and what I can do —means nothing! I’m the expert on me.

I have worked 15 years in the psychology field both inpatient and outpatient settings. I have never regretted this experience and use it to bolster my belief that my clients can overcome their struggles and obstacles given the right tools and help.

Now it’s your turn! Don’t listen to that negative voice or the naysayers! Take the power back now!
